Sofia Vergara's Vegas emergency (PHOTOS)

Sofía Vergara bid farewell to 2011 in Las Vegas with some of her closest friends at the Hyde nightclub at the Bellagio Resort & Casino.

However, TMZ just learned that when the Colombian TV star was leaving the Bellagio around 3AM on New Year's Day, she assisted with an emergency.

Sources at the scene told TMZ that Sofia and one of her girlfriends were about to leave when they saw a woman hit the deck. They immediately rushed over to help the woman and see what was wrong.

Apparently, Sofia's friend had medical training, so she was able to assist the woman by checking her pulse. Sofía and her friend then tried to keep the woman calm, staying with her until security and paramedics arrived on the scene.

The unidentified woman was then transported to a nearby hospital. And although we don't have any comment on the incident so far from Vergara's people, we're pleased she was able to lend a hand during this unexpected emergency!

Got that right! Wow, the medically-trained person had to check a pulse. Wow, that is some life-saving medical care. On the other hand, at least they got involved. Most people would follow the "diffusion of responsibility" angle and walk away, figuring that someone else will respond. So, kudos to the actress and her friends for making the effort to help a stranger, and mega non-kudos to HP for yet another sensationalist headline.
