Pop star Shakira's relationship to Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique is going better than excellent, so it's no surprise to anyone that there have been rumors swirling for a while about the possibility of the couple taking the next step: marriage.
As rumors that they might be headed for the altar continue to spread, Pique was quoted Monday by the Associated Press saying that, for the moment, marriage is something they won't do, yet.
During a recent fashion show for the HE Mango brand, of which Pique is a spokesman, the FC Barcelona center back said, "We are living a very beautiful relationship. In the future, the next step for any couple in love is marriage, but, for now, there is nothing."
Pique, 25, and Shakira, 35, met at the South Africa World Cup in 2010. They made their relationship public at the beginning of 2011.
During the fashion event, Pique was also asked whether his involvement with the Colombian had affected his performance on the soccer field, taking into account that FC Barcelona's coach did not use him in the League of Champions tournament in Germany against Bayer Leverkusen.
To that the soccer star replied: "From the first year I came to [the] Barcelona [league], I have given everything to win titles and so that the team would earn the best results. Anyone can comment later about my performance [on the field] in terms of my private life. I can't do anything [about that]."
He sharply reminded the media at the event that, "Last year we won La Liga and the Champions [European Cup) and Shakira was already there," he said.
